(AXcess News) New York - Boy George told Q Magazine in a one-on-one interview that he's been high on drugs for years and just last year managed to 'kick the habit'.  Fans might remember the former Culture Club singer having been busted in New York just about the time Boy George says he quit using heroin.

At the time of his arrest in New York, police found several grams of cocaine in his apartment.  Then Boy George was working as a DJ, which after all these years away from the center stage in the music industry was about all the former singer could get.  Shortly after his bust he hustled it back to Great Britain.

"I've spent five years in this chemical cloud. Getting clean at the end of 2007 was a very big thing," Boy George proclaimed.

"A friend took me to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting and I was like an old f***ing man. I could barely walk I'd been using so much f***ing drugs.

George admitted that his four gram a day heroin habit cost him his career, let alone his self esteem.  "Everything that's gone wrong in my life has been because of drugs," George said.

"When I gave up before, I thought I was losing something. I was 'giving up' drugs. Now I know I'm gaining half my mind back."
